Special Projects & Projects That Didn't Make It
| Not everything I pitched went into production. But I did pitch a lot of concepts. Every week we had our Marketing-Design conference meeting where we would review everything being worked on and discuss any issues. After the business stuff was complete, each manager would show any new concept he or she had. I always had lots to show and tell.

Special Projects:
* Coke Bears were super popular in the late '90s. Since we had a lot of vintage pickup trucks to use, theme here was the Coke bears doing all sorts of silly Coke bears activities. Shown here is the "Gone Fishin" bear. The other Coke bear trucks were the "B-Ball Bears" basketball team, the "Polar Towing Service" tow truck, the "Baseball Bears" team, the "Catch The Wave" surfing bears ("Catch The wave" was one of the Coke slogans), the "Ice Cap Lawn & Garden" Christmas tree truck, and the "Bear Bottling Company" delivering Coca-Cola a vending machine.

Special Projects:
* Coca-Cola calendars are big in the world of Coke collectibles. This series of six vintage tractor trailers shows 60 years of Coke calendar art - five images per side, one image per year. A well received concept, but came along too late, as the Direct Collectibles division of Matchbox was close to closing.

Special Projects:
* Coca-Cola salesmen used to drive snazzy cars with Coca-Cola graphics. This was similar to the Coke Cruisers concept, only with older cars, not muscle and sports cars. The Marketing group didn't think there was enough juice in this one.

Special Projects:
* Vintage Coca-Cola Delivery 2 was another end of the line concepts. Knowing that added feature cold-cast sculpts was out of the costing question, this delivery vehicle series used our trucks without open backs.

Special Projects:
* We were about 9 months too late on this one. The Coke Bears & Seals concept was new and about to be replaced with another Coke animal series. They felt that the Coke seal and bear a year or so late didn't make sense. Bad timing.

Special Projects:
* Our tooling for the vintage small tractor trailers was new, so we were using them as much as possible on several lines. The Coca-Cola Vintage Tractor Trailers featured pre-WWII Coca-Cola graphics. Like the vintage Harley-Davidson tractor trailer series, the graphics used elements of colors consistent with ads of that time.

Special Projects:
We had a beautiful 1:24th scale '56 Mack B Flatbed truck that I wanted to use as a Coke vending machine delivery vehicle. My pitch was to have 6 cold-cast sculpts of the highly prized Coke vending machines. This was another end of the road Collectibles concept that was well received, but not produced.

Special Projects:
There are many books featuring the heart warming Sundbloom Santa art. Each illustration is a special moment. The pitch for the Coca-Cola Sundbloom Santa Vintage Pickup Trucks was that in the back of each truck was a cold-cast sculpt of a Sundbloom Santa scene.

Special Projects:
Our marketing partners though that some rock'n roll could be applied to some of our tooling. Everyone liked the "Grateful Dead Bug" VW Beetle, but didn't really want to do it.

Special Projects:
This was a project that I worked on before I was part of the Collectibles group. For several years the Collectibles group produced the "Matchbox Holiday Train" set. I'll be posting images of the actual trains. every year that we made a holiday train set they always sold out.

Special Projects:
*remember the Louie and Frank Budweiser commercials? Very funny stuff. Unfortunately, we didn't jump right on the two lizards with the "Louie & Frank Tractor Trailer." By the time it was approved internally and we submitted it to Budweiser, Budweiser was getting ready to phase out the regretful lizards It could have been HUGE!
